The SSC GD Constable 2026 computer-based examination was originally slated to begin on February 23, 2026, but was officially postponed on February 17 due to administrative reasons. In a significant policy shift, the commission also cancelled the self-slot booking facility, reverting to a revised system.
New Week Preference System: SSC has now activated the SSC GD Preference Window 2026, which allows candidates to select their preferred exam week as per their convenience. Earlier, candidates could select exam city, date, and shift directly — this has now been replaced by a week preference submission process.
Exam Schedule: The Staff Selection Commission has officially announced that the SSC GD Constable 2026 exam will be conducted from April 27 to May 30, 2026, across multiple centres in India, in 4 phases.
Preference Window Dates: The preference window will start at 15:00 hours on April 11, 2026, and end at 17:00 hours on April 15, 2026. Candidates must not delay, as the window will not remain open after the deadline.
Important Note: Once preferences are submitted, they will be considered final and cannot be changed later. Admit cards will be issued based on the submitted preferences and availability.
Exam Pattern: The CBT consists of 80 questions worth 160 marks, divided across 4 subjects — General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi — with a duration of 60 minutes and 0.25 negative marking per wrong answer.
Selection Process: Candidates shortlisted from the CBT must clear a Computer-Based Examination (CBE), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Physical Standard Test (PST), Medical Examination, and Document Verification to be finally selected.
Salary: The SSC GD Constable 2026 salary is structured into Pay Level 1 (₹18,000 to ₹56,900) for the post of Sepoy in NCB and Pay Level 3 (₹21,700 to ₹69,100) for all other posts.
